Vitamin B12. What is it and why is it in our toothpaste?

What is vitamin B12?
Vitamin B12 is also known as Methylcobalamin, but that’s a mouthful. It’s naturally found in food and is important for the function of the central nervous system. It helps keep your body’s blood and cells healthy and helps make DNA. Low in B12, well you're likely to be low in energy too.

Why is Vitamin B12 in our toothpaste?
For the vegans – and everybody else, really. Vitamin B12 is the vitamin that vegans are most commonly deficient in, as it’s typically found in fish, meat, poultry, eggs, and dairy products.

In fact, a 2019 report from The Guardian claims that “B12 levels in vegans are a third of what is recommended”.

We decided to make our B12 Mint + Coconut Oil Toothpaste after discovering a 2017 study that proved that B12 toothpaste is an effective way to supplement B12 in vegans. Read about it here or here. While it can be difficult to absorb via tablets or supplements, it’s highly effective when absorbed through the mouth. Open wide. But don't take our word for it, read the study here

Is Vitamin B12 safe?
Absolutely. We wouldn’t put anything in our paste that isn’t safe to put in your mouth. Vitamin B12 is a water-soluble vitamin, so your body will expel whatever it doesn’t need.

How to brush with Vitamin B12?
Sort of. Vitamin B12 is actually red in its rawest, purest form, so when we put it in our paste, it gives us that natural pink hue – pretty. Are you a vegan who needs more B12 in your day or a non-vegan who simply wants a better brushing experience? Shop our B12 Mint + Coconut Oil Toothpaste now. Minty fresh
